GUANGZHOU VILLA
2022

Location: Guangzhou, China

Type: Housing renovation

Status: Concept

Concerned about the climate adaptability of the house and the poor connections between internal and external spaces, the host family reached out to us and proposed a renovation.

While the original facade of the building remained in a good state and was made of good quality materials, it had a mediocre response to the local climate. To tackle this problem while conserving most of the pre-existing facade, a “double skin shield” that absorbed most of the direct sun and provided shade was proposed.

This double skin also holds vertical circulations around the perimeter of the house, having diverse vertical circulations within the house, with easy and direct access to the yard.

Lastly, the second facade works as a structure to support greenery all around the house filtering the air coming in and out, bringing the garden right next to your window and providing a close spatial connection with nature all around the house.
